Accessing Shared Folder Crashes Windows Explorer

Everytime I access any file, or try to view a sub folder
in my Shared Folder, I get an error message
stating "Windows Explorer has encountered a serious error
and needs to close." It then asks me to send an error
report, and reloades Windows Explorer. Does anyone have a
suggestion, as it is becoming very tedious to have to
copy and paste any items in my Shared folder to the
desktop, and wait for Windows Explorer to reload?

Either Windows is corrupt on a basic level (unlikely), or
there is a program/service running in the background that
is screwing things up (likely). Try running msconfig from
the run line. Click selective startup and uncheck the
startup items. Press OK, reboot and try again. If it
works, then you can use msconfig to narrow down what
program is causing the problem.

Same thing with the system.ini, win.ini, and services tab,
except a greater possibility of really screwing things up
if you disable the wrong service (at the very least leave
RPC running).

Good luck.

Do you have the "Show common tasks in folders" option turned on in "Folder
Options"? I'm having the same problem and I just noticed that Explorer only
crashes while opening the local SharedDocs' subfolders in My Network Places
while this option is turned on. If I change
it to "Use Windows classic folders" I can open the subfolders without
incident. I've unchecked everything in MSConfig and it still exhibits the
same behavior. I even went as far as doing a system restore to about 2 wks
ago and still have the same trouble. I just can't figure what's causing this
odd behavior. We're not alone though. A search of Google Groups found
several others with the same trouble, but no solutions as of yet. If I
figure it out I'll post here and suggest you do the same. Good luck!
Mike
