Have a bit of a quandry here, and really trying to
determine what I'm doing wrong. (I'm certain it's
something simple that I'm missing, I just can't for the
life of me figure out what I'm missing.)

Have two computers. (For this example, we'll name them
simply A and B.)

If I log into B using remote desktop, and then attempt to
access a shared resource on B, I get the login screen. I
would expect this, as A\username wouldn't be the same as
B\username. However, the login box has Guest in the
username field, and it's greyed out, not allowing any
changes. What the heck do I have to do to prevent this
from occuring and allow myself "total" (including c$)
access to Box A?

Or is this just not possible?

Hi, John -

A couple of things are going on here -

First, if you're logging on to a machine using Remote
Assistance sares are not necessary because you're not
accessing shared resources - the remote machine acts as
if you're logged on locally.

If simple file sharing is enabled remote users come in
under the Guest account. Simple file sharing cannot be
disabled in XP Home - so if you're trying to access a
shared resource hosted by an XP Home machine the Guest
account must be enabled and have permission to access the
resource.

If the target machine is an XP Professional box you can
disable simple file sharing by going into Control Panel --
Folder Options. You'll see it.
