Friends: I recently bought a new computer with Windows XP Pro and a 30 gig hard drive. I also installed my old hard drive which used Windows 98 2nd edition so I could have access to many programs which friends installed on it and I don't have the disks for. It appears I am not able to read anything on this old hard drive. I believe I will have change over the files some how to the new operating system before I have access.

Is this true and if so how do I go about it? Thanks Much. JL

Do you mean it isn't visible in My Computer? Or you can see it and can't
access it? There isn't any good reason why it wouldn't be visible in My
Computer if it is found by the BIOS. Did you set the Master/Slave jumpers
correctly before installing it? If so, I would double check all ribbon
cable and power connections.

And you won't be able to use any of the programs on the old drive that
require installation. You will be able to use stand alone .exe's but
programs that are installed have to write to Windows registry in order for
you to use them.

You may have to use Disk Management to use the drive:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=309000

However you will still not be able to use the applications.
Applications need to be installed so the operating system may make the
proper registry entries.

You will need the media for those applications.
