I recently saved word documents to disc. It saved properly. Now I cannot
access the file from the disc because the original file/shortcut was deleted
from my computer. Can someone please help me so that I don't lose all my
documents.

I don't quite understand this. What happens when you try to access the
files on the disk (CD-R? CD-RW?)? It sounds like you burned just the
shortcuts, not the files. If this is the case, of course the files don't
exist on the disk. Please explain exactly what you did, are doing, and
what happens so we can get a clear picture.

It sounds like you "drag and dropped" the files to disc, but never burned
the disc.

That, or you just burned the shortcut to disc.

I checked the cd after copying to make sure it copied all the files. Now, it
is stating that the info on the disc is "shortcut". Is there any way to
recover a deleted file?

OK, so you only burned shortcuts and not the actual files. This means
the CD is useless. There is nothing to recover on the CD. If by your
last question you mean how to recover the original files that you
deleted from your hard drive, yes there is the possibility of recovering
them with data recovery software. Stop using that hard drive
immediately. Here is my standard data recovery boilerplate:

*IMPORTANT* - If you think the drive is physically healthy, it may be
possible to retrieve the data by software methods. DO NOTHING FURTHER ON
THE DRIVE. The data is still on the hard drive but if you overwrite it,
it will be extremely difficult or impossible to recover it. If you use
data recovery software, install it on another machine and either use it
from that operating system or create a bootable cd/floppy and work with
that. If you don't have the skill and/or equipment to do these
procedures and the data is crucial, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop that has experience in doing data recovery. This
will not be your local version of BigStoreUSA. In-shop data recovery is
usually not exactly cheap (for ex., my charges are generally
$150-350USD), but it normally costs less than sending the drive to a
company like Drive Savers. You need to make the determination of the
value of your data and decide what to do.

Here are some links to various programs. I use Easy Recovery Pro, but it
is expensive. People whom I respect have recommended R-Studio and
Restoration. YMMV.
