Hi,

I have just got my 3.5" external hard drive case and installed a HDD.

I have removed it from my old computer ready to transfer the data to the new
computer when it arrives

I thought I would test it with my laptop (has XP) The external drive is
partitioned and I can access all the data on the 3 drives except the data in
My Documents in the user I created for myself (e.g. C:\Documents and
Settings\Andrew Laycock.

The message comes up saying the folder is not accessible and Access is
denied. All the other folders are accessible e.g the desktop folder. When
you look at the folder properties it say the size is 0 bytes.

I presume it is because I haven't log in as the user (it is now just being
accessed as a removable drive)

I know the data is there are My Computer says there is 50Gb of data on the
drive but only 20Gb is visible.

Is there any way of accessing this data.

Massive thanks for anyone who can help!!!

Cheers

Andrew

yes
you need to log on as administrator
and take ownership of that folder

or just put the drive back in the old computer
and move the data to a folder on the C: drive that is not within any
specific
profile

Philo,

Absolutely fantastic!

Thank you very much

Andrew

you are welcome...
although taking ownership is not too big of a deal...
for more help you can ask on a XP group
it may be easier to just move the data to another folder
