Exhange Server 2000
Several workstations in my company are using MS Outlook
XP, and they all have the same problem accessing the
Address Book.
This seems to occur at the same time.
Any time a user tries to access the Address Book, either
by clicking the "Address Book" Button or the "To" button
in a new message, Outlook shutdown after a few seconds
delay.
A send/receive also shutdown outlook.
No error message is displayed.

Any help is appreciated.

Look in the Event Viewer; there must be some error logged there unless you
are running Windows 9x

Hi Roady,

As far as I know, all affected workstations are using
Windows XP.
I've looked in the Event Viewer on the workstations and
found no message at the time this occurs.
I've also looked in the Event Viewer on the Exchange
Server, and there's no event that occurs at the time
Outlook XP shutdown on the workstation.
Very frustrating.

I've also done the following:
1. Reinstall MS Office XP pro.
2. Use the Outlook Properties page to remove and reinstall
the Outlook profile.
3. Add an Exchange Server account.
4. Open Outlook for the first time.
5. Click on the "Address Book" button to display a list of
addresses. I can select a user from a Global Address List
and send a mail message to a local workstation.
6. Close Outlook.
7. Open Outlook again.
8. Click on the "Address Book" button. After a few
seconds, Outlook shutdowns.

Hopefully, someone has also experienced this problem and
know a solution.

Thanks.

I've found the problem.
After rebooting the server, Event Viewer shows the
following message (Quite a few of them):

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeSA
Event Category: RFR Interface
Event ID: 9074
Date: 10/14/2003
Time: 9:57:45 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER
Description:
The Directory Service Referral interface failed to service
a client request. RFRI is returning the error code:[0x3f0].

I searched the newsgroup and found a reference to
microsoft article Q279742.
I assigned the local area network adapter as the primary
network adapter. This seems to resolved the problem.

I hope this is useful to anyone w/ the same problem.

Thanks for the feedback. Good to hear that your problem is solved!
