Accessing a hard drive

My old computer failed because of a fried motherboard. I have a new
computer now (with Vista) and I wonder the best way to access the old hard
drive. Is there some way to transfer the contents of the drive without
installing it in another computer (which of course I don't have!) ? Thanks
for any help.

Buy a USB enclourse and install/Hook the HDD to the new machine (you need to
set it as slave first by using the jumper on the HDD) and try to access
whichever data you want to remove to the new computer.

Bob, you could try connecting it to your new computer.
If the old hard drive is IDE configured then you can get a IDE >
SATA Adaptor. If the new computer's motherboard has IDE
connectors then the Adaptor will not be necessary.

Two choices:

1. Install it in the new computer as a second drive.

2. Buy an external USB enclosure for it (around $20-25 US) and install
it in that (very easy installation, normally taking under five minutes
even if you're all thumbs).

You generally make the drive a "master" when you put in the USB enclosure, not a "slave".
