I see many postings regarding the need to reinitialize the serial key
service after reboot or logoff but I haven't seen a solution.
I have tried starting the service by placing the executable in the
startup folder and I have tried running the "net start serialkeys",
both have failed to correct the problem.

Any ideas?

This is an issue with XP-Pro as well. There is already a bug on this for a
fix to Pro, I don't know when this will be fixed but we'll definitely want
this one for Embedded as well.

Good news, while i was pressing the folks internally to look into fixing
this issue, i found that it has been fixed, it's just not componentized yet.

Here's the deal, contact PSS and request the skeys.exe fix for KB 884565. It
will not come as a component though.

Contact XPe PSS from here:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=3220

This should be a free incident call, meaning it's free to call them on this.

Thanks
Andy

Thank you all!

Any idea when the component might be ready? I have already had to add
a third part "virtual keyboard wedge" to enable my shipment, but I
would certainly like to remove that added cost and us the built in
serialkeys.

Tried to find the KB article on microsoft.com but could not find it.
Do you have a link?

Thanks
Franz

I agree the KB link isn't there, but the number i provided is valid and our
WinSE XPe rep Jon Fincher (here's his blog: http://xpeqfe.blogspot.com/)
concurred that the KB was correct but that the KB article was hosed or the
content was incorrect so it may have been taken offline to be fixed. Our PSS
rep Mark Chamberlain also agreed that what you can do is contact XPe-PSS for
a free incident report via the link i provided below. Tell PSS that you need
the skeys.exe hotfix for KB 884565.

Sorry for the hassle here. If you have problems obtaining this, contact my
team at WECRT at microsoft.com and we'll forward the request to our friends
at PSS.

Thank you.
