When i click open access - and select 'blank DB' or 'more files' the browse
screen opens defaulting to a folder C|:\blah blah

how is this default directory set - i have deleted the folder that access is
looking for?

From the Access menu: Tools|Options then click the General tab. In the
lower left corner of the window, you will see a text box labeled "Default
Database Folder". You can set your preference there.

Thanks

Cheryl - sorry for the late response - been out of town
Trying to understand...
why is my DB changing the default folder? is it because of linked tables
this is a FE/BE situation?

Can you provide some more detail, Junior? This question seems different
from your original. Are you saying that you have an existing Database that,
when you open it, changes the setting in Access for Default Database Folder?
In other words, say, your Default Database Folder for creating new databases
is "C:\", you open this database and close it. After closing this database,
you check the Default Database Folder setting again, and it is changed to
something other than "C:\"?

A search of the KB at http://support.microsoft.com using "Access Default
Database Folder changes" as the search criterion listed a number of articles
but none which exactly describes your situation. Just one possibility ...
Are you using Office/Access 2000? If so, are you up to date on all services
packs/releases? There are 3, as far as I know.
