Hello. I've run into an Access 97 problem. I select a
database posted on a website (link is structured like:
http://mysite.net/myfile.mdb) and ask to Open, rather than
Save, the file. The file takes about 5 seconds to
download. Right away one instance of Access 97 starts
minimized. When the download is complete a second instance
of Access 97 starts (not minimized). After viewing I close
the second instance, Restore the minimized first instance
and it's the same information I had in the second
instance.

It does not do this is I save the database to my local
disk and select the database out of Windows Explorer.

The particulars about the installation are:

OS: Windows XP Pro SP1
Browser: IE 6 SP1
Default MDB spplication association: Access 97
Other apps: Office 2000 w/ Access 2000

It's more of an irritation than a real problem. If anyone
has a suggestion on where I might look to find a solution
to this, please post a reply. Thanks.

I think you are going to find that there is no way an Internet connection is
going to give you adequate performance. It may not take "forever" to do
anything, but it _will_ seem like forever.

That's not the way Access was intended to be run. All the work in an Access
database application is done _on the user's_ (that's you, at the end of a
slow, compared to a LAN, link) machine. The slowest link on which I ever
found minimally acceptable performance was an old 4 MBPS LAN, and it is a
rare, very rare configuration where you have all 4 MBPS links between you
and a website.
