I have a workgroup set up with a win2K and winXP computer but i can not
access the winXP from the win2k but I can access the hidden shares fine from
the other way. FYI: i am using the run command with the unc
\\computer_name\C$ or \\computer_ip-address\C$ also both computers have a
user account which are members of the administrators group.

Without the exact error message, and more detailed information, it is difficult to be
precise. However, maybe the following will help:

By default Windows XP forces all incoming network connections to the "Guest" level of
access (ForceGuest) and Simple File Sharing is enabled. When Simple File Sharing is
enabled connections to administrative shares (such as C$) do not work because all
remote users authenticate as Guest.

Simple file sharing cannot be disable if you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home
Edition.

If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition simple file sharing can
be disabled. However, this is only recommended if you have advanced knowledge of NTFS
(if applicable) and share permissions (so that you can keep your folders and files
secure). To disable simple file sharing:

- Click Start, and then click My Computer.
- On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
- In the Advanced Settings section, click to clear the Use simple file sharing
(Recommended) check box.
- Click OK.

For more information see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles and
documentation:

shared folder in Windows XP

For more information about "Configuring Shared Folder Permissions" and "Simple
Sharing and ForceGuest" see those sections in following Windows XP Resource Kit
Chapter (access them using the TOC treeview pane):

Ch 6 Managing Files and Folders | Sharing Files and Folders

And if Simple File Sharing is not the problem perhaps you have enabled an Internet
Firewall for the local network connection adapter. For more information see the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

KB298804 - Internet Firewalls Can Prevent Browsing and File Sharing
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?Product=winxp&scid=kb;en-us;298804

And if neither of the above are the problem I suggest that you post your question
(with exact error messages) in the newsgroup:
