Access vs Project

I have exported task name, date and resources from an MSaccess database 2003
to MSproject 2007. I am using project to report progress on jobs. But I am
using access to report the economic part of the jobs. Is it possible to
update the current table in msaccess from the information in msproject? I am
double booking now to get one report of all this information.

I thought MS Project contained financial recording and report capabilities.
What are you tracking with Access? You may be able to use Project
instead...

You can assign dollar values to resources in Project. That's how
Project determines the cost of a Project. I don't think you need
Access at all for this. Maybe a good book on Project would help... or
check out that NG.
 
I am not tracking any thing with access, I am generating a full report in
access, and my problem is that I am reporting progress on the jobs, but my

common report. We are 20 people in the project group. This is a project that
is on going fore 12 month ore longer. On a job we have notes, budget and
progress all this is gather in a “home†made access database. I am exporting
data form a “workOrder†table and in to project plan in MS project. When I
updating may plan in project I wonder if it is possible to make access to
update the %complete (progress) on the jobs from the plan in project. Now I
update the progress in project and then update the same progress on jobs in
access.

I believe I have a pretty good picture of "how"...

My question stands ... why?! If MS Project can record (and report)
everything needed, why (continue) to use all those other mechanisms?

Hi,

why?!.. Because I am the only one in the project group that works in
Project, the rest is working in access.
 
Of the many tables in MS Project, there is one table that stores a huge
number of fields about each task. Import that table into access or link to
it. It will probably have the field you want to examine, but if not, you may
be able to determine which other table in MS Project has the field you
require.

If I recall correctly (and depending on version), MS Project has a mechanism
for exporting data to others (not using Project). It may also have a
fill-in interface for non-Project folks, and I recall a web-based interface
as well.

Project (I have 2003) will export to MDB, CVS, SQL, Excel and such. Just
export the fields you need to a MDB file and query it together in Access or
use it as a linked table within access and they will always have your latest
