Access v9 in Office '97 run problems under Office 2000

My brother-in-law and I have the same problem: We upgraded
to Windows XP Home Ed from Win98. We installed Office 97
Pro edition, including Access, on the system. Then we
upgraded to Office 2000 (vanila version w/o Access 2000).
Now, when we try to run Access it says the application
isn't installed and to install if from the original
location. We have repeatedly reinstalled both Office
programs with the same results. MS Product Info help and
FAQs don't address this problem. What stupid little step
are we missing? HELP! We both have Access databases we
need to retrieve. Thanks in advance.
 
Hey Paul -

Assuming that you still have all of the necessary disks needed for
installation, the key to this issue is generally that since Access is
version 97 and Office is version 2000, if they are installed as normal, they
will overwrite it each. In most cases, if you install Access 97 into a
seperate directory then the default directory, and then let Office 2000 go
to the default directory, then it should work.

Well, that didn't do any good. At least now I get a
different message. I installed Office 97 in its own
folder off the root directory, and installed Office 2000
in the default directory. NOW it says I can't run Access
from the Office 97 directory because there is no license
