I use ACCESS 97 at home but have to use XP in the office and dislike it
because of its different way of working.
To what extent can I upgrade 97, if any, before it changes to the XP
version.
Some versions are labelled as ACCESS 2000 for example but I wonder if there
are any great differences from the 97 one.
I would be grateful for any advice.

Access 2000 is more similar to Access 2002 (XP) than it is to Access 97.
Given the choice of upgrading from Access 97 to either Access 2000 or Access
2002, I would choose Access 2002.

Access 97, Access 2000, and Access 2002 (XP) are three distinctly
different versions of Access. I'd say the biggest difference is between
Access 97 and Access 2000, with Access 2002 not working all that
differently from Access 2000. So if you don't like the way A2002 works,
you probably won't like A2000 either.

What about Access 2002 and its "different way of working" don't you
like? There are some things about it that I don't like as much as A97
and that I can't change, but some of the differences that initially
appear can be "reset" to work the way Access 97 does. I'm thinking
mainly of A2000/2002's default use of ADO instead of DAO.

Strongly agree! I've seen a lot less corruption, bloating, and general
wierd errors with XP than with my (mercifully brief) exposure to 2000.
