I added a W2k pro machine to my LAN. I set the machine to
retrieve its IP/DNS from my XP machine (which has
Internet Sharing enabled). Everything works fine except
that when I try to browse the W2k from the XP the former
keeps asking for Username/Password. This is really
annoying because I'm trying to use a network printer
connected to the W2k but cannot.
BTW: I recently tried to upgrade to SP4 but couldn't. I
have another w2k machine on the LAN but no problems
there.
Any hint would be greatly appreciated.

Add a local user account to the Win2k machine using the same username and
password as the account on the XP Pro machine and give the account access
this computer from the Network in the local security settings.

.
Thanks, I'm already feeling better that eventually I'll
be able to use my new printer. But forgive my
ignorance... (I'm using every precautions not to screw up
anything)
1) Why this particular w2k machine requires that I add
this new account whereas the other w2k on the LAN does
not?
2) Is the procedure to the second part of your response
i.e. "give the account access this computer from the
Network in the local security settings" is Control
Panel/Administrative Tools/Local Security Setttings/Local
Policies/User Right Assignments/Access this computer from
the network ?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure it does not have the account?
Is the other Win2k using NTFS file system?

That's the spot.
