Windows 2000 has a feature for having access to network
files when you are offline. You can right click on a file
and there would normally be an option "Make available
offline". Once this option is selected it would then
store a copy locally, however, every time you connected or
disconnected from the network it would automatically
synchronise to make sure the latest copy was available on
both the network and the local machine.

This is not a option on my W2000, how can I get it or make
it available? Is tehre a service I can add? Thanks for all
help.....

Hi Lena,

Log on using the built-in Administrators account (or with an account that has
administrator privileges), use the Services MMC snap-in (services.msc) to start the
Server service; log off; log on; and then check for the "Make Available Offline"
command.

If Server is not listed in services.msc you will need to install "File and Printer
Sharing for Microsoft Networks". For some information on "Installing a network
service", search Windows 2000 Help for quote.

Please excuse my intervention.... I believe I have a similar problem.

Small network, Win2kAS, Win2k Pro (all SP3). Recently added a new network
adapter to a laptop and "bang" offline files no longer available. The tab
is present when you pull up the folders options dialog but all the options
are greyed out.... I had a quick look in the Event viewer. Server service
is running but did complain about a duplicate computer name on the
network....Is a purge of Wins on the Server the way forward??

Thanks
