I have been importing excel data when I clean it up to match other data in my
access database. Recently, access shut down when I tried to perform the same
action. Is this a problem with Access or my data. How can I fix this? Help.

Hi Albert,

Please be more precise.

Do you mean that Access shut down when you were importing data from one
particular Excel sheet, or that it shuts down every time you try to
import data from any Excel workbook, or something else?

What error numbers and messages do you get when it happens?

Does the Windows error reporting system pop up, and if so, does it offer
you a link to click for more information?

What versions and service packs of Office and Windows are you using?

The error states that MS Access has encountered an error and will shut down.
Any data you have been working on may be lost. It also prompts me to create a
backup copy of the dbase. I have done that. Also it tells me to compact and
repair. I did that.

Now, I had other people in my office try to create a simple database with
two columns. THen import two columns from excel and it crashed on their
machines as well. I think this is a system wide problem. not with my data. I
wonder if there should be a service pack added? We use MS XP and service pack
2.
