Access Security

My husband is writing an Access database that he wishes to distribute via CD. He has set up user accounts and security but when he copies the database all security is removed from the copy. He has looked at several help pages and it appears that this is normal in Access. I am a Lotus Approach database programmer and the security is passed through to any copies - is this possible in Access?

It is not "normal" except when security is applied incorrectly. When
applied properly the file should only be capable of being opened when using
the same workgroup file (mdw) as that used to create it. You would then
need to include this workgroup file when you distribute it.

If the file can be opened with another mdw file then a step was missed in
setting up security.

That simply suggests that he missed a step or steps in the setup of the
security -- most likely he didn't remove all permissions from the Users
Group or, else, didn't remove the Admin user from the Admins group. Those
the most common mistakes. Get a copy of the Security FAQ and follow it to
the letter. There is a link to it on my website.
