Hi,

I am a new user to Access 2003. I have created a database with two forms
and several queries, but did not put in any security features. I then tried
to zip up the file and send it to someone, but for some reason when they open
it up it says "Read Only - cannot make any changes" Any idea why this would
be? I would like to give anybody that opens up my file, basically admin
access. Does Access by default not let anybody make changes other than my
machine? Thanks in advance.

Sent it to them how? By Email? On a CD?

Copying a file to CD will usually set the read only flag which will have to be
reset when the file is copied back to a hard disk. This would ordinarily NOT
happen with a ZIP file though. By that I mean the read only flag would get set
on the ZIP file itself, but any files extracted out of it should not be affected
by that.

If you sent it by Email and they have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 it could
very well have been marked as "Blocked" by Windows as a potentially hazardous,
but that would not let them open the file at all rather than just making it read
only.

Hi Rick,

I zipped it up and sent it via email. I am using Windows XP and the person
I sent it too is also using Windows XP. Any suggestions? Thanks.
