I am teaching a basic ACCESS class to adults. One of my
students asked me:

If I save my original database in A and make changes but
want to be able to save original data can I save the
changes to another drive (C for example)? Is this
possible? I think he's familiar with EXCEL.

Thanks

There is no File|Save or File|SaveAs in Access. All changes will be made to
the database you have open. You have to first copy the database (using the
OS File System, ie. Explorer) to another drive (or another file name if it's
in the same directory) to have an additional copy.

Hi

Actually, there is a "File>>Save As" menu selection in Access (A2K) which
might have led users to believe that this is how another copy of the
database can be created. But this menu selection pertains to the active
object within Access i.e. form, report, query, etc. For example, you can
select a query and save it as a form or a report, etc.

Personally, I dont see much use of this "Save As" functionality and why it
appears under the "File" menu is beyond me.
