Hello, group!

Days ago, I went to a city public library in my town.
There were computers(Dell, Windows XP) and I used one of them.
Strangely, all functions were restricted except for the Internet
Explorer and even the IE didn't allow me to visit other sites than the
library site.

When I pressed [Window + E] keys to bring up Window Explorer, it
showed a message - "Access Restriction".
When I clicked Start button, it showed only one menu (I forgot what it
was.).
When I pressed [Window + Pause] keys to open System property, I got
the same error message.
I couldn't do anything except looking at the library contents.

I wonder how they implemented it.
Do they use a special utility or does Windown XP has those functions?

TIA.

Sam

You should report that problem to the Library computer worker.

Hi Sam,
There are a number of tools for controlling what a user may/may not
accomplish on any particular machine. They can be machine specific software
or hardware, combinations thereof, or even Group Policy Settings from the
server in Active Directory. Depending on the uses assigned by the
Administrator, your mileage may vary from unit to unit.

You may wish to speak to a staff person on your next visit and determine
which machines are available for surfing as opposed to research within the
confines of the library.
