Hi,

I used to be able to right click on an IE icon and make changes to the
properties without opening the browser.

Is this a function that went bye bye or is there still a way to do it
?

Many thanks,

Mike

If the icon for IE on your desktop is the *object* for it then
right-clicking on it and selecting properties would bring up the
Internet Options applet. If, however, you have a *shortcut* on your
desktop to iexplore.exe then the properties you see are those for any
other shortcut.

You could also use: Start -> Settings -> Internet Options

thanks,

it was a shortcut but I had already tried going to the target and
right clicking it and then properties and when that didn't work I
didn't bother to cut and paste the "object" onto the destop.

Incidentally I didn't have Start -> Settings -> Internet Options

not the Internet Options bit anyway :-)

but I went to the control panel and have now cut and pasted the
'object' onto the desktop which does what I wanted.

Never being satisfied of course :-)

Is there a way to make a short cut or through start/run to go directly
to the LAN settings in the properties ?

thanks again,

Mike

Start-Settings-Control Panel-Internet Options

or
from Start-Run, use:
control inetcpl.cpl

or
doubleclick inetcpl.cpl

or right-click the special desktop icon (not an ordinary shortcut)

Desktop icon
Win9x:
IE-Tools-Internet Options-Advanced
Check "Show Internet Explorer on the desktop"

For XP:
Control Panel-Display Properties-Desktop tab.
Customize Desktop

Define a shortcut where the executable filename is inetcpl.cpl.
