I am aware that there are methods and software available for recovering (or
more neferiously, cracking) access database passwords. Is there any way or
type of access password that cannot be read by these methods?

I must use an access database but it needs to be secure!

No, they can all be cracked.

Having said that, it's pointless to say that your database must be
"secure", unless you idenbtify the level of threat that it must be
secure /against/.

If against your 5 year old brother, then, a database password would do
nicely. But if against the NSA, a whole lot more would be required.

No, they are all crackable.

Security is a trade-off between crackability, ease of implementation and
ease of use. You first need to figure out what kind of attack you want to
be secure against. Depending on your requirements, Access might not be able
to suit your needs at all and you'll have to use a 'real' database, i.e. an
SQL database server.

And, a final word: Almost all security is crackable given enough time,
resources and commitment.
