Access or import remote site

I need to get a remote site on my local computer so I can publish it to a
new location. The developer is not available. If I simply import it I lose
the themes, etc....any other ideas?

Thanks.

You need the login credentials for the remote site. Then use FrontPage
to open the site and publish back to a folder on your PC. Without the
credentials the best you can get is the .htm(l) pages, but the files
comprising the theme, shared borders, include files, pages that use
server side scripting, files linked to by JavaScript, FrontPage
navigation, databases .... will not be downloaded using Import.

The web host might be able to help if you can prove ownership of the
site.

I'm attempting to open the site by clicking on File/Open Site. I enter
http://hotdiggitydog.com

It attempts to connect to the server and then I get the error:

The folder 'http://www.hotdiggitydog.com/' isn't accessible. The folder may
be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the
filename contains a / or \.

Thanks for your help.

Try opening site with the "www" included, example:

http://www.hotdiggitydog.com

Note: The site must have the FP extensions installed and configured correctly by the web host in
order to be able open it in this manner.

Your server requires the frontpage server extensions to open the site live
to be able to publish to your PC - but from the message below I'd say they
are not installed.

Contact your host about this; they may or may not support the FPSE, so if
they don't then there's not much that can be done other than transferring
the images, and HTML files by FTP, then open the site on your PC and reapply
the theme.

Then, you can re publish to the new location/host.

How can I determine what the theme is? I didn't make this site and I'm
fairly new to FP.

Thanks for your help.

Open a page in a browser, then View Source.
Look for a line similar to:
<meta name="Microsoft theme" content="sumo 0110,default">
The content part gives the name of the theme and how it is applied.
(Sorry, I do not recall the meaning of the digits - but can find out).
Also look for
<meta name="Microsoft Borders" content ="tlrb,default">
This tag shows whether there are any shared borders in use. Shared
borders are in the _borders folder, named top.htm, left.htm, right.htm
and bottom.htm. They may not all be used or present.
