We have several Access (2003 SP3) applications running on a Windows 2003
network. All users have Windows XP on their workstations. The database's
are not currently split. Each application is in its own folder with
appropriate (read, write, create, delete) rights to the folder. The
database's are set to share with record locking. Each user has a windows
icon and/or windows menu link to the appropriate application. Here is the
problem: The first user who clicks the icon opens the application. Every
other user who tries to open the applcation via an icon or windows menu gets
an hourglass for 5-8 seconds, then nothing. Same with a menu pick from
windows. If the user opens Access and then picks the application from within
the access menu (right side), the same thing happens. However if the
"File/Open" command is used, the application dutifully opens without further
problems. At present, we have this as a work-a-round, but it is not very
elegant! Anyone have a suggestion?
