I'm trying to find/understand/learn about .mdz files. I
was told that they have something to do with how your db
points to the tables on a network, but I've done linking
on a network, etc. before and have never run across this
term. If I look it up, it says that they are 'MS Access
Database Wizard Templates'. Could someone please
enlighten me on this term/type of file? Thank you!

They are database Wizard Templates that are used by Access
to create the database for you if you want to create a new
database base on Templates. Some of the Templates are:

* Asset Tracking
* Contact Management
* Event Management
* Inventory Control
* etc...

Try creating a new database based on Templates (in A2K2)
and you should see all the choices.

They don't have anything to do with linked tables, Tammy. As Van says
elsewhere in this thread, they are used by the database wizards. There is no
public documentation available on the details of MDZ files. Michael Kaplan
(who developed some of the database wizards) says ...

<begin quote>
MDZ files are small OLE DocFiles that
contain only a picture and an ID number. The real "template" data is
contained in the many tables of wzdat80.mdt.
<end quote>

That's about the sum total of what is publicly known about them. If you're
still interested, check out the following thread in the google archives ...
