Hello. One of our users is getting the following error when trying to open
an Access 2000 db:

"The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and
another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time."

I believe the problem started when the user had the file open late at night
when the backups were running. We can't restore this file from backup for
some reason, it keeps hanging our bu software.

Is there any way to unlock this file? Is it damaged and unrecoverable? Any
help would be appreciated, she is really in a panic.

First make no one has the file open.

Next check to see if there is an LDB file located in the same directly
as the database with the same name. If so delete it.

If you have not done so try repair then compress the database from
within the database.

This may not work, but it will not hurt.

Nobody has the file open, and there is no .ldb file. We can't do a
compress/repair, we get the same message when we try. The odd thing is, we
have this file on backup tape, but can't restore it. Arcserve just hangs
when we try, and I know the tapes are good because I've restored other files
from these tapes. Apparently there is something wrong with this file, even
when she was able to open it. Not finding much on MS or Arcserve's knowledge
bases. I am out of ideas.
