I have a xp server 2k3 domain with 10 xp pro client machines. We installed a
small client/server app which runs fine when we logon as domain admin to the
local machine. However, when we logon as a user we get a
"system.unauthorizedAccesException : Access to the path "c:\xxx\colors" is
denied " error message. The colors file is simply a color control file for
the app display file. In any event, I have tried a number of different basic
ways to get around the problem but have been unsuccessful.
1) I gave the client folder 'xxx' new security rights for the user to the
point of full control. That was unsuccessful.
2) I shared the same with full control shares as well. Also unsuccessful.
3) I gave the user different levels of security all the way up to
administrator. Administrator was the ONLY way we could get the app to run
correctly.
4) I gave domain users full control access security permissions to the
folder but the app still never connects.
5) I tried to run the app under 'run as' as administrator which still fails.
I've kind of run out of ideas and have gotten confused. I don't want to run
under too many policy restrictions as this is a really small environment and
doesn't need a whole lot of restrictions.
Any one have any suggestions?
