Access Denied when launching a game

I get the "Access Denied! Please login with admin
priveliges and try again" error when trying to launch a
game. This only occurs to my 3 newly installed games
which is Empires, Call of Duty and the C&C Generals
Expansion pack. There seem to be a problem launching the
game .exe file, but the strange thing is that I can play
Call of Duty Multiplayer as it is launched from a
different .exe file.
Im suspecting some corruption in the registry but what to
do and what it is Im unsure of.
And FYI, obviously I wouldnt post this if I werent
computer administrator, if I hadnt been in touch with the
game support team only to find that they didnt have a
clue what it could be, trying to reinstall the game a
1000 times...

Hi Skabb,

Here's what I would try since the game techs are baffled.

Change the Local CD Rom Access Security Policy by either following
the instructions below, or more easily, you can download the Registry Fix
from: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 264 / 2nd Col.
titled: Access Denied - CD Rom, ... Doubleclick the Reg Fix after you DL it
for it to install. If you prefer the manual method, then follow the steps below:

To change the policy with the policy editor, using an Administrators account,
Click Start / Control Panel and Click Administrative Tools
Click on "Local Security Policy" to start that Application

Click the + to expand Local Policies / Click on Security Options
In the list on the Left right look for the following entry:
"Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only"
If it says Enabled, right click on it / Properties / select Disabled.
If it was already Disabled leave it alone. Close the Application.

Hi Skabb,

Create a brand spanking new administrators account,
uninstall the games, reboot, and reinstall them.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

Very nice try but of course it wouldnt work. I still get
the same error. So since all logic explenations or
solutions counts against me, Ill have to think of what
could possibly have gone wrong. I still suspect a
corruption in the registry and since even your solution
didnt work Im pretty sure of it. I did find this guide on
how to restore the registry if windows xp wouldnt boot.
But Im not sure if I wanna try that as (a: Im not
familiar with the registry and (b: Its not like my
operative system wont boot up. But then again I dont see
any other solution but I dont want to end up doing the
format thing either so Im stuck. Can anybody help me out?

Hi Skabb,

I would do a repair of Windows instead. It preserves your
programs and data's while restoring your Windows system files.

Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and
Recommended updates from: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
