I have the above message on network printer after setting
up a default printer for all Windows XP users. Also I am
unable to access the printer properties or the printing
preferences. Any suggestions as to how to fix this
problem?

Alan, thanks for your reply. The users are UNABLE to
print. It comes up with an error about the printer not
being switched on, or the driver needs re-installing etc
etc. Any suggestions?

-----Original Message-----
can the users still print?

Which printer is this? Where did you get the drivers?

What operating system is the machine hosting the printer?

Is this a workgroup or in a domain?

I get almost the same message. I have a desktop running XP Pro and a laptop with XP Home. The desktop has a Laserjet print connected to LPT1. Both the laptop and the dekstop connect wirelessly to the network. I can add the printer onto the laptop and it will work fine but as soon as I reboot the laptop, I loose the printer connection. When I try to print I get the message 'Access denied .....

I'm not certain it is a printer issue as much as a rights or priviledge(sp?) issue. I have the laptop name in the administrators group on the desktop but that doesn't do any good. I'm not certain that the 'Other Network File and Print Services' are installed. I dont think they are (At least I dont remember installing them

I'm hoping to be able to get this permanently connected so that when the laptop is powered on it has the ability to print to the desktop. I'd be very greatful for an answer to this.

This is an authentication issue. You need to check save the password

Alan,

The computer is Windows XP, the password option does not
actually come up. We are running off a Windows 2000
network with Exchange 2000. The printers are many and
varied from HP, Kyocera, Ricoh, you name it, we've got
one of them. I'm having trouble with setting up all of
them. It is okay if I add them normally to the computer
through the network, the problem only occurs when I am
trying to add them as default printers for when I set up
new users. At the moment if I set up a printer and add
it to the default user through the registry editor, and
then create a new user and try and edit the printing
preferences I get errors about the operation not working
and messages about the printer spooler is not running,
when I know for a fact that it is. Suggestions?
