Currently, I am able to access a Win Vista machine and a Win 2K
machine from this WinXP machine on a peer-to-peer workgroup network.
However, when I attempt to access the WinXP machine from either of the
other two machines, I get a message: "\\STARWARS is not accessible.
You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact
the administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions. Access is denied." I have done a variety of things that I
found on the Microsoft Knowlegebase. Nothing has worked. I have
exhausted my options. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This is most frequently caused by a misconfigured or overlooked personal
firewall or other security program. What anti-virus program do you have?

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html

I would diagnose the problem, using logs from "browstat status", "ipconfig
/all", "net config server", and "net config workstation", from each computer.
Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely
(Download browstat, and note how to run a Vista command window!):

Chuck -

I am having the same difficulty, but my error message has an additional
message to what Vern's message states ["\\xxxxxxxxxx is not accessible.
You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact
the administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command"]

Any ideas on this one?

What is crazy - I can go onto the XP machine and pull up the workgroups with
my local shared folder and it gives me the exact same message......

Greg,

That's an obscure registry setting on the server, generally caused by an
anti-virus install.

This is most frequently caused by a misconfigured or overlooked personal

I would diagnose the problem, using logs from "browstat status", "ipconfig

Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely

Greg,

That's an obscure registry setting on the server, generally caused by an
anti-virus install.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/server-functionality-affected-by.html
Thank you Chuck for the FIX!!!

One key note to add to the process you have you your web site, REBOOT is
need for the changes to take place after adjusting the registry.

Thanks for hte quick FIX!!! I can now sleep again.
Greg

Thanks for the feedback, Greg. And for a very useful detail.

However, the XP machine still denies access. I have executed the

I appreciate the advice. However unfortunately, your suggestion did
not work. I suspect that the problem lies with the XP machine because

OK, the old "... access denied ..." error can have many causes, and IPV6 is
simply a commonly seen one here.

Now, we can see a problem from CHARTRANDNB.
There are 2 servers in domain SHAKESPEARE on transport \Device
\NetBT_Tcpip_{84D9D3E0-3B02-4A2D-978B-AD2571EFA11C}

Unfortunately, we can't tell which 2 computers are seen, because you haven't
provided any diagnostics from the third. Again, from Vern-notebook:
Browsing is NOT active on domain.
Master browser name is held by: CHARTRANDNB

No master browser conflict, but there is an SMB problem with Vern-notebook.
