I have four computers all running XP pro on a network. I am able to access
the default "SharedDocs" on all computers from any of the computers on the
network. On one of the computers I want to share the "My Documents" folder
over the network, so on the My Documents properties menu I selected "Share
this folder on the network". The folder can now be seen under My Network
Places on all computers, but when I try to access it I get the access denied
error. What am I doing wrong?

Folder Options>View tab - uncheck "use Simple File Sharing". Create matching
user accounts/passwords on the "host" machine. Now you will be able to
share My Documents and all users who have an account/password on the "host"
system will be able to access that share.

Ok, I tried unselecting the "use simple file sharing" on the host computer
and creating identical user names and passwords on the host computer but I am
still unable to access my documents on the host computer from any of the
other computers on the network. I don't understand why I can see both the
"SharedDocs" and "My Documents" of the host computer in My Network Places on
all of the other computers on the network and I'm able to access the
"SharedDocs" folder but not the "My Documents" folder. All of the share
settings are the same for both folders. Any other suggestions, please?

Matching accounts not required.

Did you set the permissions on the share to Everyone?

Malke

Thanks Malke, that was my problem. I didn't realize the permissions for
everyone was not set.

Glad that sorted it for you. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
