I added a new hard drive to my computer and installed
windows xp onto it, to be used as the boot drive. My old
hard drive I put as a secondary drive and Windows XP was
also installed on it when it was my only drive. I can not
access The my documents folder on the older drive, it
give me an access denied message. I have many important
document that I need to get out of that folder. How would
I do that?

All you may need to do is take ownership see

HOWEVER, if you encrypted the data and did not back up the encryption key,
then you are SOL because Windows generates a new key on each reinstallation,
so I'm afraid, if that's the scenario, your data is as good as gone.
