access denied to my documents on second hardrive

i have just installed my old 10 gig hard drive into my
new pc.i want to retrieve the info from my documents
folder but i get a message saying access is denied.

NTFS?

Look in START -> Help and Support and search for "take ownership of a file".

The problem is your account ID on your new HD doesn't match the
account ID on the old drive. This is true even if you create an
identical account on the new HD with an identical username/pw. That's
because when you reinstalled XP, it created a new SID for the newly
created account. This new SID doesn't matcth the SID for the files
you want to access on the old drive.

You need to take ownership of the files/folders in question. Look for
how to do that in Help.
