Access denied to local disk after XP install

After installing Windows XP Professional on my laptop I
can not access the D drive anymore. The disk manager
shows it there and has almost 300 MB free space. Windows
explorer says 'Access denied'. The 'chkdsk' utility
nicely reports that all thousands of files are still
there. I had a Windows 2000 installation and the D drive
is a logical drive that contains a NTFS compressed volume.
Who can help me to get access again to my files?

Thanks,
Harry
