I was using windows 2000 professional on my desktop,i had
stored all my important files in one folder in drive D:
(NTFS),i was the only person who had access to this
folder,i had not given permision to anybody else, suddenly
one fine day windows crashed,at that instance i didnot
care about that folder which had all my important files,i
straight away installed a fresh copy of windows 2000
professional, but after installation when i tried to access
the folder which had my important files i was very
disappointed to see that the folder is not accessible, msg
was Access Is Denied, please help me so that i can access
that folder as all my important files are in that
folder,if any body knows how to solve this problem please
mail with the solution to (e-mail address removed) will be
very grateful.

If the folders were encrypted with EFS and you reformatted to install you
may be out of luck. Hopefully that is not the case and you simply need to
logon as the administrator and take ownership of the folder being sure to
check change on all subfolders and objects. By taking ownership you can then
give yourself necessary permissions to access those folders/files possibly
needing to add yourself to the permissions list with full control. File
security properties are found by right clicking a folder and selecting
security while you additionaly select avanced and then ownership to take
ownership. See the link below for more details and it also applies to
