Hello. I recently purchased an HP Media Center PC that is running Windows
Vista Home Premium. This is a family-shared PC and has six user accounts: two
administrator accounts (one for me, one for my wife), and four standard
accounts for the kids.
Our previous PC died due to motherboard failure, so I took its hard drive
and converted it to an external USB drive. This drive was configured with XP
and the latest patches, and set up with six accounts (two admin, four
regular). When I connect this drive to the Vista machine, Vista recognizes it
and I can view and open directories and files on this hard drive via
Documents and Settings -- except my old folders and files. Whenever I try and
open my files on the external drive, I get an error message saying I don't
have authorization. Any idea how to get around this? Thanks in advance.
