Apologies to the group if this has already been discussed
BUT!
I have a desktop running XP pro connecting by WiFi to a
Netgear ADSL modem gateway. The netgear acts as the access
point.
this connection works fine with the desktop accessing
the 'net okay.
I have a Sony vaio that connects the same way with no
problem.
The desktop can see and connect to the laptop by WiFi but
the laptop cannot access the desktop.
I have the guest account enabled on the desktop which I
understand is required for network users.
The workgroup name is Cosmos on both machines.
I am only running tcp/ip on both machines and wonder if
any other network protocol is required?
I am unable to ping the desktop from the laptop but can
ping the netgear.
computer browser is running on the desktop.
The only problem I have is when trying to set up the
workgroup on the vaio laptop is a subsystem spooler error
message.
The shared drives and printers show up ok on the desktop
as shared resources. Do I need to go back to the old
style filesharing and permissions a la NT4./Win2K.
Any ideas etc would be gratefully received
Alan
