Okay...so I had a bunch of viruses/trojans. Seem to be all fixed. But now,
after doing a repair install of Windows, I cannot install update kb898461.
Checking the help files, its apparently supposed to install into the
system32\preinstall directory. When I went to look at that dir after install
failed, it won't open "access denied".

The log for the patch shows:

Failed To Enable SE_SHUTDOWN_PRIVILEGE
1.781: Hotfix started with following command line: -q -z -er
/ParentInfo:6a808f652cebba4c9a428874d0252406

error 0x2
3.297: In Function TestVolatileFlag, line 11692, RegOpenKeyEx failed with

Any idea what this is and how to fix?

Hello Tali,

If you have had a lot of problems with virus and trojaners the best solution
is always to reinstall the OS, install Antivirus software and patch to the
newest level. Then bring back your data from backup. Even if you think all
is clean, theire can be to much changes that you don't see.

Best regards
