"Access Denied" error message

I have a 16-bit application that was installed on
WindowsXP. It replaced some dll's in my Windows\System
directory. I would like to copy the original files back
to the Windows\system directory from the application's
\BACKUP folder. When I go to the DOS prompt it won't let
me copy the files. I get an "Access Denied" error
message. I assume I get this error message because XP has
already loaded the dlls. How can I copy the files?
