I have upgraded from XP Pro to Vista and I am getting an "Access Denied"
message whenever I try to install any additional software or hardware. I am
logged on as an administrator.
Suggestions?

Hello Ed,

What build and is UAC enabled or disabled? If enabled, try disabling it and
attempt the install again.

I am running the latest build (RTM) downloaded from Technet. I have tried
installing with User Account Control turned off and get the same messages.

Hi Ed,

Even the admin account does not run with full privileges. Right click the
setup file, use "run as administrator". Agree to the prompt if UAC is
enabled (there's no reason it shouldn't be), and see if this works.

As Rick says, I have found that with some programs, you need to *save* the
"install mechanism". the setup folder/file and right click and run as admin.
There are not as many as there werre in some of the builds last spring,
because the UAC team trimmed some of their prompts accross the board.

If you do this, you shouldn't have trouble installing and there are fewer
that require it but some still do. If you run into a particular program
that balks after you do that, let us know what it is.

I have resolved the issue. It was Mcafee Viruscan Enterprise that was
locking me out. Disable the access protection during software or hardware
installation and everything works fine.
