A "consultant" we had in last week insisted that Access
is soon to be discontinued, in favor of a SQL lite-type
product. I can't find anything relavent to this claim, so
I have my doubts (especially since it has such an
established customer base). Can anyone point me to an
article or whatever that confirms or refutes this?

Thanks!

Rubbish. Throw the consultant out.

A new version of Access is in beta right now. Microsoft do have
plans for more versions.

Now what is happening is that Microsoft is enticing people to switch
to SQL Server instead of Jet as SQL Server is more robust and can
handle more users. But this is the data storage part and not forms,
reports and modules part. This may be what is confusing the
consultant. However if he isn't aware of the differences between
Access, Jet and SQL Server then clearly he is a PHC (Dilbert's Pointy
Haired Consultant)

However MS is going to have to make the conversion much easier to get
people to switch in great numbers.

I second what Tony wrote.

Even with the JET Database Engine (the default database
engine for Access), I think Microsoft guaranttee that it
will be available for at least 2 more Access versions.
And the MSDE (possible replacement for the JET) has been
introduced to Access since A2K.

Throw the PHC out and employ Tony at the discount rate of
$500.00 per hour. <smile>
