Access databases -- where are hiding on our network.....

I'm certain we have Access databases scattered about on computers all over
the company. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were on drive "C" and
therefore not backed up. Is there any way I can determine where these
databases are located (say by HOSTNAME?)

TIA,

If you log in as a network administrator you can use the default
administrative shares to access the workstations' drives, e.g.
\\COMPUTERNAME\C$
But this is a Windows admin question rather than an Access one.

I appreciate the reply but the problem is knowing or finding what
"Computername" is.

To add some to John's answer, I believe the Access 2003 Conversion Toolkit
application can be used to scan remote hard drives, if you specify the
Hostname. Of course, the remote PC's would need to left powered up but could
likely be in a locked state.

For more information, see this link, which includes the following quote:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011401661033.aspx

"Because the scanning tool supports stand-alone command line usage,
it can be run remotely by an IT administrator from a management
workstation or from a centrally administered script."

Hi Bill,

Determining what "Computername" is would definately be classified as a
Windows question, not a question for this newsgroup, whose focus is the
Microsoft Office Access database software. Perhaps the Windows XP Security
and Networking newsgroup is more appropriate:
