I have a remote connection at home to work on our database and there have
been problems when too many people log on at the same time Recently i lost
the ability to access the database and get an error in a box that says "
can't lock file" it prevent sme from any access and no one seems to know why
I called our IT guy and he is on vaca I need to know if anyone knows why this
happened and if anyone at the office could have possibly locked me out if so
how can this be proven. Thanks

CMarrone,

Well, depends on a few things about your setup.
How are you connected to work? How fast?
Are you opening the mdb file directly over the remote connection?

If you're opening the mdb file directly, Access is not happy unless you are
connected at normal LAN speed (i.e. In the remote connection world, I'm
guessing this is equivalent to about 8 x T1 bandwith). So, how fast is your
remote connection?

One of the more common causes of corruption in a multi user Access
application is an unsplit design. Is your application split into Front End
and Back End?

Until we get the above Access related issues squared away, dont bother the
IT guy just yet (let him enjoy his vacation). Can you tell I'm also an IT
guy? :-)
