Access contacts without opening Outlook

Can I open the file containing contact information (.pab?) so that I can
retrieve an email address without opening Outlook and going through the
send/receive sequence? I need an email address but don't want to receive all
the incoming mail since the recipient is out of town and will want to access
it remotely.

Is there a way?

Thanks!

Outlook has not used a PAB file for over 10 years. What makes you think you
are?
Just because you open Outlook does not mean you have to do any mail polling.
Just configure Outlook correctly not to poll.

I was reading some of your posts earlier and had a feeling I'd get this type
of response. I sure hope you do this out of the goodness of your heart,
because I'd hate to imagine Microsoft paying you to be so rude.

I did put a question mark after .pab file because I wasn't sure that I was
goiing in the right direction... I looked for a pab file, Genius, because
that's the direction Outlook Help pointed me in. It wasn't something I
dreamed up. Sure, I know that Outlook can be configured not to "poll' on
opening. But I'm not so smart as you, so tell me how to reconfigure Outlook
without opening it.

Thanks!

You'll have to open Outlook to set your polling preferences. If you
absolutely can't do that, just create a new Outlook profile and open your
Outlook data file in it. A new profile will have no mail accounts and no
automatic polling.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry about being rude. People come looking for help, usually after putting
in a fair amount of effort to figure things out on their own. Be patient when
you can.

Again, thanks.

Nothing I said was impatient. You posted to a group manned by volunteers who
provide help on their own free time and cannot read minds. You provided none
of the information anyone would need to answer your question in a newsgroup
setting, which then demands even more of our time. You can expect a pointed
redirect to clarify your post when you do that. There are some suggested
posting guidelines here that will help you:

dependso n the version - at least outlook 2003 supports a nopoll switch.

** Please include your Outlook version, Account type, and Windows Version
