The Office Developer Edition provides runtime support, and a wizard so you
can package it with your (unaltered) Access database for installation and
use by people who do not have Access installed.

The only "compilation" for Access is compilate to MDE file form, which is a
tokenized form, with original comments, etc. removed. It can run somewhat
faster, and prevents anyone from modifying the code or forms/reports with
code modules. But it has nothing to do with whether or not the application
is run under full retail Access or with the Access runtime.

There's more information on the Office XP Developer Edition at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/previous/xp/devguide.asp. (It's not as easy
as it once was to find marketing information on Office XP at the M'soft
site. That's probably because they are in process of getting ready for the
release of Office 2003, scheduled for Oct. 21, 2003.)
