I have been scouring the web for an hour and can't find
the answer to my question. My company uses an online
Access DB written with Access 2000. This is a huge DB that
is rigid when it comes to reports. It's difficult to get
the report we want when we want it. I'm not ready to ask
the DB company yet cause their bottom line is always
money. My questions are;
*Can Crystal Reports be set up to query an online Access
database, easily.
*Can the query's "ignore" the existing reports and get the
info the way we need it.
Hopefully I,m making sense, and also I'm in the right
newsgroup forum.

You can get Crystal to report from the raw data in Access if it has access
to the Access database.
You can also create another Access DB and link it to the primary Access DB
and use the new Access DB to create your custom reports.

Either way you need to have knowledge of the systems and it takes time to
construct them and time costs money. that is why your DB Company charges for
their work and why it is cheaper to use specialists assuming you pick the
right ones.

Hey Doug,

Thanks so much. I'm gonna check out Crystal Reports then.
I'll have to buy a book and do a quick crash course. I'm
not going to be at this company much longer, I've outgrown
the position, so I want to leave them with an easy way to
get the info they want in a report. This is a non-profit
org. and moneys tight. Also not everyone is tech savvy
there.

I've not looked at Crystal for a couple of years but Access can do a very
good job of producing reports. It *may* be more powerful at the high end but
I'm not sure about that.
I'd spend some time with it before investing in Crystal unless you are
moving on to an area where it will be needed.
