I am wonder if anyone could point me in the corrrect direction of how to
correctly access the newsgroup
alt.binaries.pictures.climbing 0000000566 0000000555 y. I am not sure what
the numbers mine and what the y means either. My buddy sent me this
newsgroup but I cannot access it. He and I have sat on the phone for hours
trying to get it to work. Do I need a special software...or can I set it
up so that Windows Mailin Vista can access it? Any help would be great.
Thanks a bunch

I accessed it very easily with WLM via Tools > Newsgroups.
Type "alt.binaries.pictures.climbing" (no quotes) into the
"display groups that contain" box , then highlight and subscribe.

If ther group doesn't show up there...

You might check with your News server provider that they carry the group
(if they don't ask them to include it (a common and easy process for them.)

Note.
Quite a few news servers don't carry binary groups in which case you'll
have to track one down that does (may involve an account subscription fee)

ps. I'm not sure what the numbers or y suffix indicate
but I'm confident they have no bearing on your inability
to access the group.

pps. You may well be disappointed with the group when you eventually
get it. There's hardly any traffic, 10 posts in last 3 months, and all are
spam,
people trying to rip off Paypal details etc. Take care.

There doesn't seem to be a control message for that group at:

ftp://ftp.isc.org/pub/usenet/control/alt/alt.binaries.pictures.climbing.gz

Many major news providers won't carry an alt group nowadays unless a control
message for it has been archived.

Who is responsible for doing that for any particular group?

note. to Original poster... As I mentioned there is little of value in the
group
and you may find it more profitable to persue your interest via this link...
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/rec.climbing/topics?lnk=sg&hl=en
where you'll find people who share your interest and may be able to help
some more. Rec.climbing should be available via Windows Mail too.
