I am not certain what you mean by "built in user account." Simply put,
when we formatted the computer, Windows XP prompted if we wanted
accounts. We said yes. There is one account for each person in the
family. I have an administrator account. My son has an administrator
account.
For some reason, we can no longer access my son's files through anyone
else's account. The problem is with iPods. When we attempt to upload
files, we have to tell the software where it is. If we go to
"Documents and Settings" etc., we can not access his files. " A notice
comes up "Access denied." It was then that I noticed that even when I
go to "Start, My
computer", his file "Michaels Documents" is not listed. The other
three accounts are listed together with a "shared documents" is
listed. (I tried to access the data by going to the Program files, and
data files from there: no luck.)
I have a Dell Dimension 8400 and use Windows XP Home OS. Both kids
have passwords to get into their account. I can access my daughter's
account without problem. I changed my son's account to a limited
account and still could not get his document file to appear nor access
his files.
I looked up the problem and found an article on sharing files on
Windows XP Professional that noted the following:
1. Double-click My Computer on the desktop.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3.Click the View tab, and then select the Use Simple
File
Sharing (Recommended) check box to turn on Simple File Sharing.
(Clear this check box to turn off this feature.)
There is no such tab on the Windows XP home Edition.
I think that if I could simply see his Document folder when I hit the
Start, My computer steps, the problem would be solved.
