Hello all,

How can I scan documents from a scanner attached to a different computer on
my network. The software I am using is looking for a scanner attached to my
computer, but the scanner is actually attached to my wife's computer in
another room. Is it possible for me to scan documents from my computer when
the scanner resides some place else?

Yes, in theory. Your first task is (on your wife's PC)
via / start / settings / printers / SCANNER
(right click) / Properties / Sharing
check box for Share This Printer. The XP icon then
displayes the hand sign underneath . . .

Next step depends on your scanner software, whether
it requires a command line to start or loads itself
whenever anyone logs to the scanner.

Normally it isn't possible to use a consumer-level scanner over the
network. There are network scanners, but they cost thousands of dollars
and are usually leased from a business machines company. These network
scanners are used in conjunction with a server running a real server
operating system.

Don,

I think my problem lies within the scanning software itself. It doesn't
allow me to choose a network path to the scanner, only local searches even
though I have installed drivers for the scanner on my pc.

You think I need to choose a different type of scanning software, perhaps
one with networking capabilities?

Malke,

Geez, that's wayyyy to expensive for my needs. I'll just have to suffice
with using my wife's pc to do my document scanning. Thanks though for your
input on this.

Hi Malke.
I do not dare to post after you when many other topics come up, coz I know
that I would be corrected many more times. ;)
Have a Happy New Year.
